Mary Howell, First Chairman Fenprobe TN

Frances Mary Howell
Chairman Fenprobe 1979 - 1993Mary Howell with ex President Maurice Hobbs

It is with great sadness we report the death of the first Chairman of
Fenprobe TN,  Frances Mary Howell, at the age of 88.  Together with her husband, the late Henry Howell, Treasurer of Fenprobe until his death in 1991, she steered the fledgling service through the first years until it became the successful service it has remained to this day.
An indefatigable fund raiser and inspirational, witty speaker, she came from the Campaign Amateur Theatre in Ely, whose members contributed so much to the early recordings.  For many years she and Henry hosted recordings in their Ely home, where the hourly striking of the living room clock became a trademark part of the news.
Sadly, there are few remaining members of the original committee and possibly even fewer original listeners, but Mary's legacy will continue and we thank her for her work and dedication to Fenprobe Talking News.
