Brian Gowler 1953 - 2017

The Chairman, committee and listeners of Fenprobe Talking News would like to pay tribute to Brian, a founder member and listener, since 1978, to the weekly audio edition of the two local papers. He served with Annie his wife on the committee for many years, joining wholeheartedly with the fund raising efforts.
When the service moved to permanent premises twenty years ago, he became responsible, with Annie, for evolving our present day postal and collection system and general studio management. He had a phenomenal memory, remembering over a hundred names and he was so useful as the blind representative on the committee in putting forward their interests. He served as Chairman of the committee for some years until 2008, keeping everyone up to date with the needs of our blind and partially sighted listeners. He and Annie continued running the studio until a few months before his untimely death.
Despite losing his sight as a young man, he led a full life, a member of Camsight as well as Fenprobe.  He helped the Ely Blind Bowls team come third in the world Blind Bowls Championship held in Canada. He and Annie travelled extensively in Britain, staying at hotels catering for blind and partially sighted people.  He was also a very keen gardener, his aim was to be first in the district with butter beans and new potatoes!
He was integral to the running of Fenprobe. We all miss him and send our deep sympathy to Annie and the family.
